Another, another rejection
When I started turning to the internet for writing and publishing advice, it seemed like everyone and their mothers was prepping me for the first rejection. That it would soul crushing, world ending, and it would make me want to quit.
Then I got my first rejection and it really wasn't that bad. I was actually excited! It added some good feedback on how to improve my prologue, an issue I, nor my beta readers, noticed! So it was a really amazing first rejection, that actually fueled me even more to keep querying because I know my book has that potential!
Well, now I'm almost 10 rejections deep and phew. Each rejection has a different reaction. Some I'm like 'oh man. Oh well.' and move on, others sting more than some. Like one agent, I thought my book was perfect for! She rejected my query and, man, that stung for a few days because I felt really sure. But, everyday is a new day; full of potential requests and offers! One step at a time, there's no need to rush. It's like learning to fly, or falling in love- wait. Sorry, it's a great song!
Anyways, I heard from an agent on twitter that the longer some agents have your query the more likely they like it! Some of the agents I've queried to have had mine for a while, so it's one of three things.
-I'm just one in a big ol' pile! they'll get to me when they have time
-Like that one agent said, they like my query and are taking their steps to accept it (or maybe they're the type to wait to every query before they accept any; who knows!)
-Or I will simply never hear from them. Which is also totally fine. Agents are busy people, they might not always have the time to send thousands of rejection emails.
I'm hopeful, of course! I've got some agents I haven't heard from I'm really excited about. Still, managing my expectations, even if they reject me; it's not the end of the world! I will find more agents to be excited about, and if the rejections ever hurt too much or if things get out of hand I can always take a break from querying!
You can too! (Probably... I don't know your situation but please put yourself first!)
Drink some water, take a walk around the room. Love and light!
